Both Bryan and Carmen were brought up in Christian families and became believers at an early age. Through his involvement in Bible Quizzing and the influence of annual local Alliance Missions Conferences, Bryan was drawn to missions. After a degree in anthropology and linguistics, he found a career in information technology working for a non-profit in his home town of La Ronge, Saskatchewan, where he met and married Carmen.
Carmen grew up in Regina, and earned degrees in Christian Studies and English in Winnipeg before becoming an exchange student at Lithuania Christian College. She returned to Regina to earn her journalism degree. She then worked as a newspaper reporter in La Ronge before starting her own communications company. Along the way she has also worked as a news reporter for a local radio station.
In 2008, we were led to pursue our long dream of international service. After a long interruption caused by the unanticipated arrival of our daughter Sara in February 2010, we were welcomed into the SIM family as members in April 2011.
After putting our house in La Ronge up for sale in 2013, we waited until its sale in August 2016. We left for South Africa at the end of December, 2016. We then spent nearly two years working in the SIM Southern Africa Service Centre before returning to Canada in December 2018 to raise support for continued work in South Africa.
